There was a huge bomb scare in Liverpool City Centre this morning

Police cordoned off the area after a man claimed to have ‘suspicious package’


Around 10:30am this morning claims were made about a man who walked into offices on Tithebarn Street with a suspected bomb. 

Staff on the fifth floor of the 14-storey building at Silkhouse Court near Moorfields Station activated a fire alarm which alerted the emergency services to the situation.

The site was promptly evacuated with Merseyside Police, Merseyside Fire and Rescue and Royal Logistics Corps Bomb Disposal on the scene.

Armed police have detained the suspect and taken him in for questioning.

All staff at Silkhouse Court have been accounted for and no-one is thought to have been injured.

Merseyside Police have released a statement confirming the events on Tithebarn Street, saying: “A  man has been detained following an incident at a business premises in Silkhouse Court, Tithebarn Street, Liverpool today, Friday, 8 January.

“He will be taken to a police station on Merseyside where he will be questioned.

“No one has been injured during the incident and the site will remain cordoned off until a search of the premises has been completed.

“Thanks to residents, businesses and motorists for their continued patience.”
