A guy’s guide to Bold Street

Lots of bargains for all of the boys

Bold Street guy's fashion liverpool vintage

There just aren’t enough fashionable high street stores for the boys in Liverpool.

Hardly anywhere lets you grab fashionable pieces on a student budget, and half the time you’ll end up wearing the same top as everyone else on campus. How are you meant to pull the worldie of your dreams in LEVEL if just you get lost in a crowd of copycats?

If you want to keep your individual style without breaking the bank, head in the direction of the bombed-out church to Bold Street. If you’re still not familiar with street names, it’s the street you stumble onto at 3am for Subway and Mr Chips. It’s where people in the know go.

Resurrection

Resurrection has the full spectrum of styles, and there’s 10 per cent student discount so you can step away from your overdraft.

Channel your inner Ron Burgundy in some tweed

Also check out the constant £5 and £10 sale rails. You can find literally any style within these four walls. Checked shirts? Check. Wavey tiedyes? Check. Retro windbreakers? Check. Nike and Carhart tops? Check.  Retro tracksuit jackets? Check.

Resurrection is a must-not-miss.

Even the interior décor is cool

The possibilities are endless. And best of all, the vintage pieces are all one-offs, so your flatmate who always copies your clothes can jog on.

Pop Boutique

Glass fronted shops, making window shopping so much easier

Pop Boutique actually has two stores in Liverpool, but the biggest and best is on Bold Street for sure.

From wax jackets to Breton striped tee’s and paisley print shirts, Pop Boutique has got it all. This store is a dream for boys who like to stay on trend but are sick of being Topman-tee-shirt-twins with half of Heebies.

Are you really ready for summer without a Hawaiian shirt? No, no you’re not

Oxfam

Next-door to Subway for a tactical lunch break

Very important rule: never turn your nose up at second hand clothes. We’re all skint students, and beggars can’t be choosers. Beggars can still look good though.

Liverpool Oxfam is great for flannel shirts, jumpers and brands at devilishly low prices. It is not uncommon to stumble on Fred Perry polos for a fiver, or an Adidas sweater for a couple of quid. What’s not to like?

All good boyfriends need sweaters for “borrowing”…

Soho’s

Calling all LEVI’s lovers: Sohos is the place for you. If you’re after the perfect pair of jeans without breaking the bank, then you need to go to Soho’s. It stocks pretty much every size, fit and colour under the sun.

Soho’s has pretty much the best range of printed shirts and retro accessories in its basement, too.

Quiggins (Renshaw street)

The 699 drives past on Friday nights when you’re too gone to notice it

Quiggins hosts three floors of little shops and stalls – great for if you want something a bit different. “The Hippy Hole” is tie-dye heaven, and the comfiest revision pants in the world. If you’re a sucker for a band tee then you’ll spend hours in this place. There are rails upon rails of old American sweaters and hockey tops too.

Warning: it’s pretty trippy décor, so don’t take anything before visiting or you’ll feel like you’re in a scene from Alice in Wonderland.

Ok, some of the clothes are only for the brave

Reality or an acid trip? Visit to find out

Lost Art (Slater Street)

With an exterior this good imagine what’s inside

Lost Art is Liverpool’s own skate shop, with the coolest hoodies and sweaters – way more fashionable than a Liverpool University hoody. Sporting Lost Art gear will win you serious style points and respect from the locals. There’s also a ridiculous amount of unmissable trainers.
