A student who was killed by a bus on Smithdown Road earlier this year looked the wrong way before crossing, an inquest heard today.

Francisco Viscasillas, 24, was a Spanish student visiting Liverpool when he was knocked down by a bus outside ASDA on Smithdown Road on February 11.

Liverpool coroner Andre Rebello earlier today recorded an accidental verdict at an inquest into his death.

The inquest, held at Liverpool Coroner’s Court, heard Francisco suffered fatal injuries when he stepped into the road and was hit by a bus, thought to be an 86C, having “looked left instead of right”.

Merseyside Police were called to Smithdown Road at around 3.15pm on the day following reports a bus had collided with a young male pedestrian.

Francisco was later declared dead at the scene.

Firefighters and paramedics also attended the scene of the the accident, which led to huge delays to traffic on Smithdown and the surrounding area.

10 police cars were there, along with three fire engines and two ambulances.
