There were only four points in it

Manchester reign victorious in this year’s Christie Cup, winning by just a fraction.

Liverpool came a disappointing second in the tournament, played at home, losing out to our northern rivals by just four points.

Leeds came last with 139, Liverpool in second with 173 and winners Manchester with 177.

The last time Liverpool lifted the trophy was in 1991, meaning our wait for success is in its 24th year.

Second year Rugby League player Fiona Chong was sidelined with injury, but went down to support her team nonetheless.

She said: “The weather was great and the atmosphere was really chilled out.

“It was quite quiet for a big event, but my friends and I enjoyed ourselves.

“The Rugby league boys did really well and battered Leeds and Manchester.”

Men’s rugby

We may not have come out on top but we still picked up some victories.

Men’s rugby league and women’s tennis both triumphed over our rivals down the Mersey.

Special shout out to our Polo team who picked up first place on its Christie Cup debut.

Consolation was found in the packed lunches provided to the crowd by sponsors Aldi.
