Liverpool is the most stylish university in the country

Gone are the days of the shell suit

They say fashion is what you buy and style is how you wear it, so what is it about Liverpool that makes us as stylish as we are?

Few cities do shopping as well as Liverpool does, and few people shop like the locals do. Boasting a Topshop, River Island, Primark, New Look, two H&Ms as well as a whole host of local boutiques, Liverpool ONE is a haven for fashionistas.

Not only are the shops great, but they’re all within about two minutes walk from each other. There’s no getting a tube from one to another, or a laborious walk across a city centre. You could hop from one store to another (don’t though, this wouldn’t be stylish).

For anyone after something a little different, Bold Street is a hipster paradise. An abundance of decent charity and vintage shops like Pop Boutique and Resurrection have something for everyone’s taste. Allerton Road is also known for its impressive second hand shops.

The thing about Liverpool University is there is no such thing as overdressed. Stand outside the Sydney Jones for a while and you’ll witness this revolution in all its glory. Girls teeter in and out wearing high heeled boots, camel Topshop coats and hair fresh out of sleep-in rollers – and this is just the norm. No longer is it acceptable to don joggers and a hoodie for that straight out of bed look.

Why consult the pages of Vogue for fashion inspiration when you could just take a trip on the 699?  Carnatic’s latest residents are the most fashionable yet.

Winter saw oversized scarves, plush fur coats (faux, obviously) and a whole load of tartan. We’ve got our make up down, too.  Many criticise the infamous Scouse Brow, but how many girls these days are drawing their eyebrows on? That’s a Liverpool thing, you’re welcome.

The guys are stylish too

It’s not just on campus we top the fashion stakes. Dressing as well as we do for university means we go twice as hard when we go out. Whether it’s Juicy on a Thursday or Raz on a Monday, we Liverpool dwellers dress up properly. A night out does not pass without eyeballing someone’s incredible outfit and wondering how they look so good after that many doubles.

The streets of Liverpool really are a catwalk, and students prove a crucial part of the city’s fashionable reputation.
