La’Go is the happiest bar in Liverpool

It’s not just a stop off when you can’t get into anywhere else

alcohol clubbing La'Go Liverpool nightlife

Sat for years on the corner of Colquitt Street, La’Go has a bar, some floorboards, chairs, and loos.

Its bare bones maybe a bit grotty, but that doesn’t stop it being one of the finest, most under-appreciated establishments in Liverpool.

Often overlooked in favour of Heebies (until the queue gets too long), here it is unpretentious and cheap. It hosts the right mix of students, actual grown-ups, stragglers and oddballs to make for a good time.

The Tab loves L’ago

Hooray – the black stuff

No one is too attractive or too ugly, stone-cold sober or vomiting on your nice new trainers, and you don’t get judged if you want a pint of Guinness at two in the morning.

The music is a jolly mix of Northern Soul, Funk and lots of other fun things you’ll can dance your socks off to. Mighty Mojo the DJ will without fail play Rick James – Give it to Me Baby. And you actually will be able to throw shapes instead of battling the organ-squishing current flowing through Heebies.

You can also get really drunk for not a lot of money. Even if you didn’t have quite enough beforehand, £2.50 for a house double on a weekday is cheap and cheerful enough for a grand old time.

Party your sorrows away and laugh at everyone else, even though you probably look just as ridiculous.

The swimming pool style décor is not an unfortunate interior design flaw, but a clever psychological trick, causing everyone to hark back to the glory days of their childhood Saturday outings and truly remember what it is to have fun.

Cheeky.

A place for movers and shakers.

The bouncers are also jolly fellows whose style of derision tends towards piss-taking rather than insults or violence.

The only technique needed is to not be too sober or wear a nose plug until you’re pissed, or you may notice a smell of toilet.

It is not nice to have to pay £2 to get into Heebies, be breathalysed by the fun police in Faculty or have to jostle with freshers wearing bum bags if you want to go to Juicy.

La’Go is a magical, whiffy dive where drinks are really cheap and the fun never stops.
