The University is splashing the cash again

The cat’s out of the bag on plans to demolish an existing lecture theatre to make way for a four storey, 120, 000 square foot “materials innovation” factory.

The University has selected BAM construction for the £23 million job and apparently it will be BREEAM Excellent Rated – whatever that means.

The factory will be a brand new home for 140 members of staff plus a team of Uniliver scientists.

The plans are very similar to the beloved Central Teaching Hub, although it is not yet clear which lecture theatre will be replaced.

New Lab set to resemble this

Maths student Adam Frost told The Tab: “It is typical these days to pull down old structures and destroy classic architecture for state of the art labs where stuff happens that only a minority care about.

“Fuck the labs.”

Construction of the building means more noise, havoc and disruption on campus for students who have already had to deal with the Guild being refurbished.

Too much noise

With construction of the new lab set to end in July 2016,  we can look forward to a whole two years of banging, clanking and smashing.

Crown Place resident Amelia Brodie said: “Campus is not somewhere peaceful where work can get done.

“Half the time your lecture will be disturbed by the clatter of a ladder or buzz of a drill, it never ends.”

Campus has been a building site for some time now
