The legendary Jacaranda – the first venue to host The Beatles – is set to reopen its doors after being shut for three years.

The Jac closed down years ago cutting losses but rumours emerged last December that the club was reopening.

The Beatles played their first gig at Jacaranda back in 1960 when manager Allan Williams gave them a chance to perform.

New owner Grahan Stanley hopes to recapture this magic for a new generation of bands.

He said: “This has been a long time in the pipeline. When we closed Jacaranda three years ago it wasn’t taking in money and it was a hard decision to make.

“We all put our minds to what we might do with the space and to get inspiration we looked back at our 60 year history.”

The venue still looks relatively unchanged

He added: “One of the things we’re going to bring back is allowing bands to rehearse in the basement when they want, in exchange for playing a gig that evening. Allan Williams, the old owner, used to do this with the Beatles.

“We’ve got thousands of bands here in Liverpool so we’re going to have music right across the board. We’ll find our own level.

“Jacaranda is a fantastic venue. I’ve been involved here for five years and this is a brilliant space. What’s been amazing is the response from people since we’ve announced our re-opening.

“They feel really passionately about this and the sense of excitement is palpable.”

The myth holds that manager Alan Williams set Paul McCartney, John Lennon, and Stuart Sutcliffe to work redecorating his cafe before letting them play. Back then they were known as Long John and the Silver Beatles.

Stuart and John painted the mural in the girls’ toilets – which has now been restored in full.

The newly-decorated Jacaranda is re-opening on 6th November.
