INTRODUCING…Seafaring Creatures

The Tab meets the band who can “make your nan dance”.

Cavern Korova Liverpool University band Society Seafaring Creatures

It is rare to have both talent and a sense of humour, but Seafaring Creatures have got it.

When asked to describe their sound, they told us “it varies a bit, some of our songs would be pretty good in a John Lewis Christmas advert and some of them are so bouncy they’ll make your nan dance. We think 80% of nan’s agree.”

With that statistic in mind, their influences are “anything with a folky or indie tang.”

You may recognise vocalist Emma Sims, co-president on Band Society, who is among the members of the band.

Their first gig was at the Pilgrim, where “Emma had to hold the lyrics in front of her face because she didn’t know them… on a tablet.” As they themselves admit, they are clearly  “very modern.”

They would love to play a festival, even though poor Emma got badly tricked by fellow band member, telling us that “Once Pi tricked me into thinking we’d got ourselves a small set on an introducing stage at Glastonbury. I basically cried when I found out he was lying.”

When they are not pranking each other and generally loving life, they are currently working on “some acoustic sets” and “recording a single, perhaps to do with an up and coming public holiday.”

Their highlights so far are whenever they get some kind recognition after gigs, saying it “absolutely makes our night, especially when [people are] in no way obliged to!”

“The Cavern has been our favourite place to play on both occasions. Also they have amazing air conditioning. I (Michael) only had one sweat patch that evening.”  That sounds like a win-win right there!

The band cannot thank the Band Society enough, explaining “we would have never got together without Liverpool Uni Band Society…They’ve given us a chance to find our feet!”

Michael confirms that they were indeed “at the end of our legs”.

Those feet will be walking over to Korova on Friday 29th November, so why not go and see what Seafaring Creatures are all about before they do get that Glastonbury slot for real!
