Students splurge over £1,000 a year at the beauty counter.


Students are spending more than a GRAND each year on beauty products, despite hefty student loan debts.

The results are down to online beauty retailer Escentual.com, who checked out the spending patterns of students at all higher education institutes in the UK.

Despite every Scouser going to extreme lengths to look good, students at UoL came in 21st, spending on average £192 a year on cosmetics.

Female students at Lancaster University were the vainest in the UK, apparently dishing out £1,109 on make-up, fragrances and skin products in the last year.

Freshers are apparently ignoring they will be leaving with an estimated £53,000 in debt as Lancaster’s top totty’s spending equated to 20% of their yearly £5,500 student loan.

A double room near the University campus can be rented for £65 per week, or £3,380 per year, which shows Lancaster students are happy to be spending up to the equivalent of 1/3rd of their yearly rent on keeping themselves in tip top condition. Lucky lads.

University of York check in as the second most beauty-savvy, with an average yearly spend of £968. Durham University came in third, spending £895 per year.

Boffins at CambridgeUniversity were 16th in the table with students spending £278 a year, and OxfordUniversity was 25th with spending of £155.

UCL was the only London uni to feature in the top 20 highest spenders, with students spending an average of £402 on cosmetics each year – almost three times the amount of a 12-month gym membership at the university’s Bloomsbury Fitness centre.

Meanwhile, students down south at Falmouth university clearly spend more time surfing the caking the slap on.  They spend just £5.23 a YEAR on make-up.
