Liverpool’s Film Guide: November

Check out the Bombed-Out Church and other quirky venues for this month’s film fix.

November is a month synonymous with facial hair growth, and what better way to compliment a slick moustache than with the watching of a quality film.

The Tab brings you the second instalment of the definitive guide to some of the best unique film experiences going on around Liverpool this month.

1st November – Fight Club – No. 5 Abercromby Bar

University of Liverpool FilmSoc will be screening the thrilling psychological drama Fight Club. Although the film stars Brad Pitt, Edward Norton and Helena Bonham-Carter, the real main attraction is the moob-endowed Meatloaf. As such, it is worth watching solely to see the “Bat out of Hell” star with tits (and it is also a ridiculously good film).

3rd November – The Elephant Man – FACT

Continue your moustachioed month with a different kind of facial disfiguration than a moustache. That’s right, The Elephant Man is showing at FACT on 3rd November and might just act as that bit of motivation you need to fight through the early phases of moustache growth and see it through to its wondrous completion.

If Elephant Man could muster the courage to be seen in public then why can’t you?

7th November – Blues Brothers – The Bombed-Out Church

Once again, the Bombed-Out Church continues on its quest to screen some of the best films ever created and this month’s prophesised event comes in the form of the 1980 musical comedy Blues Brothers. Entry is a minimum £2 donation and there is a fully licensed bar to cater to all your alcoholic desires: you drunken student bums.

14th November – Geethanjali – Vue Birkenhead

Understand Malayalam? Then there is literally no conceivable reason for you not to watch this film. Geethanjali is a psychological comedy thriller (Bollywood has a strange way of producing these genre oxymorons), which is a remake of the award-winning 1989 film of the same name.  Foreign films can be a bit of an acquired taste but then again I am just a mindless knobhead who finds subtitles and different perspectives a challenge.

27th November – Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown – FACT

Do you like women who are on the verge of nervous breakdowns? Do you like tornadoes? Have you ever wondered what it would be like if you combined the two?

Only joking. This month your foreign film quota is being doubled. This 1988 Spanish black comedy deals with issues of depression and mental exhaustion. Just what you need to sum up the month that you have spent being ostracised from society because of your gaudy facial hair.
