Sorry, Scousers

A new survey has shown that Scouse is considered the least friendly accent in the UK.

More than a quarter of Brits voted for Scouse as the least friendly in the country, in a survey conducted by ITV’s tonight programme.

Liverpool students will also be shocked to find that the accent is also considered the least intelligent and most untrustworthy by the rest of the UK.

The full results of the survey

At the other end of the spectrum, the Devon accent is considered the friendliest, with almost two-thirds calling it “very friendly” or “fairly friendly”.

Despite the changing face of the city, the stereotype of Scousers as thieving, violent drunks is rooted firmly in the past – mostly thanks to the work of Harry Enfield and Paul Whitehouse:

Liverpool constantly defies this stereotype – the city was recently voted the 2nd safest in the UK.

And anyone who’s made 10 new friends while queueing for the Bold Street cash machine on a Friday night will know that Scousers are a lovely bunch. Who needs the rest of the country anyway?
