Young woman dies after taking contaminated ecstasy

Liverpool’s status as one of the druggiest student cities in the UK has come back to haunt it.

Sophie Leigh Balmer, an 18 year old girl from Walton, has died at the Royal Liverpool Hospital after apparently taking a variety of ecstasy pill known as Rock Star. A post mortem will follow in the next few days.

An 18 year old male has been arrested on suspicion of supplying the drug, which if convicted of carries a possible penalty of up to life imprisonment and an unlimited fine.
