Tea-Total Chaos

Leaf are opening a new cafe! But no one is allowed to drink standing up and the residents are already pissed off.

Once again the locals are kicking up a fuss.

But instead of causing a riot over new student accommodation, residents are now expressing concerns over Leaf’s new business venture.

Everyone’s favourite tea room has been given the go ahead to open another city centre branch in West Africa House, near the waterfront.

However, residents are not too pleased with the idea, claiming the late opening hours (serving all the way until 2am!) will cause disruption to the peaceful community.

Local resident, Alan Sprince, told the Liverpool Echo:

“We’re not against the proposal – we all like Leaf on Bold Street and visit regularly. Our main concern is if people are outside smoking and talking loudly. If that is going to go on until 2am then that is inevitably going to impact on us.”

Leaf would also have to ensure there were enough chairs for everyone, as customers would be banned from standing up whilst they drink.

At the licensing hearing, managers were told they’d have to keep noise level at a minimum and prevent the “vertical drinking” culture by providing chairs for everyone.

A date for the opening of the new venue has not yet been confirmed.
