The much anticipated launch of ‘In The Red 11’ Magazine finally happened at Leaf earlier this month.

On May 8th, Leaf played host to the event which has been over a year in the making, attracting 170 people to its doors, all wanting to experience the up and coming literary talent.

Since the magazine’s conception in 2002, it has been steadily gaining a reputation for showcasing a rich cross section of the Liverpool poetry and short fiction scene.

Each year sees three new editors, all JMU Creative writing students, work to take the magazine to new heights whilst staying true to the legacy of the magazine’s history.

Brett Janes, Criss Fletcher and Rebecca Brookfield, this year’s editorial dream team, were set on making the 11th edition one to remember and the launch event certainly reflected that ambition.

There was an impressive variety of styles and content on show, an aspect reflected within the magazine itself.

The readings were interspersed with live music from the talented Frankie Davies and her cohort of musicians that set the mood for a night of art, celebration and reflection on a year of hard work for the In The Red team.

Over the past year, organisers have raised money for the magazine’s publication through open mic nights.

One of the editors, Brett, told The Tab the launch was just as entertaining as “any other of our open mic nights, except we had the excitement of the actual magazine to hold.”

The finished magazines and impressive turnout are what Brett attributed to the “buzzing atmosphere” on the night.

The night concluded with the ceremonial announcement of the next magazine editors for In The Red 12. The new team thanked their predecessors and vowed to build on their work over the coming year.
