The Tab catches all the action at The Liverpool Music Awards Launch Party

The long road to The Liverpool Music Awards kicked off in style on Tuesday as the city’s town hall played host to the official launch party, and as always, The Tab were there to catch all the action.

For those not familiar with The Liverpool Music Awards, Chief Organiser Elinor Phillips describes it as, “The celebration of incredible musical talent and entrepreneurial achievements within Liverpool’s Music Industry.”

The event, which launched for the first time last year, has seen the likes of X Factor star Rebecca Ferguson and new indie rock band The Hummingbirds receive awards, while Spice Girls legend Mel C has also appeared to present.

This year some of Liverpool’s finest bands and acts such as The Zutons, Lightning Seeds, Esco Williams, Ian Prowse, The La’s, Stephen Langstaff and Stealing Sheep were joined by music industry figures for the red carpet event.

Performances on the night included winners of last years of The Ones to Watch Award, The Hummingbirds, along with Silent Sleep, country singer songwriter Katie Nicholas and Alex Evans.

After the performances Chief Organiser, Elinor Phillips had this to say…

“The live performances were incredible, people all over are raving about Silent Sleep and their new album, The Hummingbirds really showed that they deserved the One To Watch title with a brilliant set, and of course Alex Evans’ stunning performance really touched the whole crowd”

This years The Ones to Watch award will be dedicated to 18-year- old Michael Molloy, who sadly lost his life in a coach crash on the way home Bestival last year. In Memory of Michael, close friend Alex Evans has released single ‘Rise and Fall’ which the two recorded just weeks before the fatal crash. The single, which was released this week, hopes to become the second ever song by an unsigned artist to reach the top 40 and is currently available for download.

Nominations for The Liverpool Music Awards open today which will climax at the awards ceremony on August bank holiday.
