Opal Property goes bust (but we’ll be OK)

The uni has reassured students that they won’t lose money, despite Opal Property Group going bust.

| UPDATED

When property giants Opal Property Group went into administration earlier this month, students feared the worst.

But uni chiefs have reassured us that we won’t lose our money after all.

Great Newton Hall

Earlier this month, Opal Prpoerty Group – who manage over 1,000 student beds in Liverpool – announced they were closing, due to mounting debts.

Opal Court

The property chiefs manage Opal Court on London Road and Great Newton Hall on Lower Gill Street.

But the uni has told students that they won’t lose their money, since their accommodation contracts are with the uni, rather than the block’s  owners. Emerald Properties will tackle it.

John Moores has also reassured students who live in Opal accommodation blocks that they’ll remain open, with Dir Ian Vandewalle, pro vice-chancellor of  Liverpool Hope, adding that there is “no cause for concern.”
