An intense week of voting was finally brought to a close on Friday night, which saw Sam Butler re-elected as our Guild President.

Speaking to LSMedia, Sam said he was shocked he’d been voted in again.

He said: “It was so, so close. I felt like the response had been good on campus but it was so competitive this year.”

Sam’s campaign obviously paid off

Current Deputy President, Tom Bee, was also re-elected.  Along with James Coe and Leigh-Angel Bevan, the SRO board for next year has finally been decided.

Despite his confidence in our video interview, Hasan failed to make it past the fourth round and was a no show at the results.

Yanling Fan, “the pretty girl from China”, reached the tenth round, beating other hopefuls Maggie Hayes, Natasha Walker and Cait Lees.

Turnout was down but JMU Guild was rammed

Election turnout was slightly down on last year’s record, with only 28% of students voting.

However, the 5203 votes that were cast put Hope University’s 613 votes to shame.

Matthew Smyth, Alex Coleman and Chris McCorry all took Trustee positions, whilst Yanling Fan, Tom Bee, Alasdair Bruce and Harry Anderson were all elected as our NUS Delegates.
