Scribble Make the Comedy Pilgrimage

LUDS returned on Saturday for another night of comedy at The Pilgrim

There are not many places in town where you can go and witness Cupid, the Pope, Harry Potter and a white rapper all in one place, but LUDS Scribble brought it all together in a humble pub.

Barely anything could be heard from this distance

The instant drawback has to be the venue: yes, it’s cosy and there’s alcohol constantly available (always a thumbs up), but anyone stood at the back had to strain their ears to hear the jokes and, let’s be honest, something can’t be funny if it can’t be heard.

Putting this aside, the comedy was surprisingly good. A particular favourite has to be Chris Worrall’s songs. They got a great reaction from the audience, who even sang along to his Obama song, composed to the tune of the Scissor Sisters’ ‘Take Your Mama’.  Everyone emphatically chanted “drive that asshole out” and “vote Obama out tonight.” His white rapper song was also a hit.

Other topics ridiculed included the Pope, Harry Potter and the I.T Crowd.  One sketch involved the next Pope being hilariously offensive to the previous, bless him.  The horsemeat scandal was brilliantly satirised: who knew human could be found in grass? Yep, it really was a mixed bag.

A night such as this will not be found in a hurry. Even Sam Butler managed to find the time to turn up. Judge that how you will in regards to the next election….
