Football: Campus Cup Shock Exits

The Tab brings you the round up from the Campus Cup.

At the beginning of the season I backed Mathletico Madrid to win the Campus Cup. You should also know that I am a terrible gambler…

Mathletico Madrid, 2011/12 First Division champions and highly backed favourites to win the Campus Cup were knocked out by E=Emile Heskey², the fantastically named Physics Department football team.

Not only were Mathletico beaten, they were hammered; the score was 4-1 to Physics. The result left the Mathmeticians morose and campus footballers dumbfounded.

However, the Physics team came up short against The Medics FC in the first Quarter-Final on the 20th February where they lost 8-5 in a monumentally high scoring game. Both sets of defenders clearly weren’t quite at the races.

Mathletico weren’t the only team on the end of a cup shock. FTSE XI were knocked out by fellow First Division opponents Engineering Wednesday, the latter beat Red Star Rathbone 1-0 to proceed to the Semi-Finals.

The Campus Cup has produced more tears than JT circa 2008.
