Friendship Forged in the Name of Music

Abandon Silence and Polka agree to form an exciting new partnership. But is all as it seems under the surface?

On Tuesday it was announced that newcomers into the Liverpool House and Electronic music scene, Polka, will be teaming up with club night heavyweight Abandon Silence for their show on Friday 15th February.

Inaugurated on the 25th of last month, Polka has since enjoyed a rapid rise to fame with The Tab’s resident reviewer, Conor Peacock, awarding the UoL boys 4.5 stars for their launch-night event.

Abandon Silence, which launched in 2010, is invariably considered the forefather of Liverpool’s Electronic music scene, playing host to acts such as Julio Bashmore, Blawan and most recently Ben UFO.

The publishing of The Tab’s review of Polka’s first night last week sparked reports of animosity between the established order and Liverpool’s newest recruit, with Abandon Silence tweeting, just moments after its release, “a review by your best mate doesn’t represent a fair view,” possibly alluding to Conor’s friendship with the founders of Polka.

However, speaking to The Tab, resident DJ of both Abandon Silence and Polka, Harry Sheehan, assured us that the two incidents were unrelated.

Andy Hill, founder of Abandon Silence, explicitly denied reports of tension and instead expressed adoration for the Polka boys.

He said: “After attending the Polka launch night the other week, I could see that they were really bringing something different. There are a lot of house nights being launched from different parts of the city at the minute, but Polka stood out by a mile – to get over 300 people to their first night on the outskirts of the city when there was a foot of snow and thus no taxis or public transport working was very impressive.”

He added: “The following week I was looking at who we could bring onboard to host the extra room at our next show, and Polka instantly sprung to mind. I am looking forward to hearing what they have in store for us next Friday.”

The tweet has since been deleted.

What you’ll find when you look for the tweet…

Whatever the speculation, it seems Abandon Silence and Polka have agreed to forge a friendship in the name of music and will be collaborating on the 15th February.

The event features Dusky, Tom Demac plus special guest, Ejeca.

Polka have been allocated Room 2 and performing will be their residents, Harry Sheehan and Orfan plus a special guest of their own.

Up until now, both parties have been working incredibly hard to keep the venue a secret. Today, however, The Tab can exclusively reveal that The Kazimer has been chosen as the location for Friday’s event.

The event is set to be a sell out, so don’t fuck about. Get your tickets sorted sharpish to avoid disappointment.
