Smithdown Road improvements to cause delays

The resurfacing will cause disruption to bus routes just as students have to be in for exams

Smithdown Road, the centre of student living, is preparing for 10 weeks worth of resurfacing.

The work, due to start on January 14th, will see sections of Smithdown Road reduced to single lane traffic.

Costing £10 million, the work is essential as a result of an energy company leaving the road in disrepair after fitting a cable.

Although undoubtedly beneficial in the long run, the resurfacing will cause severe disruption to students during exams.

The exam period runs from January 14th until January 25th.

Commuters may be able to find alternative routes whilst students dependent on the 699 and 86 bus routes are left stranded.

The first section to be affected is Woodcroft Road to Salisbury Road.

This will be followed by Gainsborough Road to Salisbury Road from January 19th.
