And so we’ve come to the final xoxo. After six seasons, Gossip Girl is over, and I am quite out of sorts (apologies if my writing seems a bit weird today, but I’ve been reading the Hobbit in preparation for seeing the film and have seemingly convinced myself I am one). And boy, did we get what we were waiting for.

Last week’s episode set the scene, with Bart Bass falling to his death, and Chuck and Blair running scared. But this week was set solely on saying goodbye to the show and I think that kind of made it suffer.

For starters, there was the return of Jack Bass, and Blair was weirdly okay with him, like she’d forgotten the time he creepily tried to trade her for a hotel with Chuck. There was also the five years later bit at the end, when Chuck and Blair ended up with a kid who looked about six and Lilly ended up with William, rather than Rufus. And where the hell was Scott while his half brother and half sister were getting married? Plus, why did that policeman just ignore the fact that Nate had a minor in his apartment that he was clearly screwing? In terms of doing it’s job of tying up ends, it didn’t really do brilliantly.

Chuck and Henry Bass share a moment.

But at the same time, there was a hell of a lot of good. As well as Jack, we also saw the return of Juliet, Jenny, Eric and Vanessa in a series of short cameos. Although by far my favourite cameo was that of Kristen Bell’s – the voice of Gossip Girl, who was helping her friend rehearse for the film adaptation of Dan Humphrey’s Inside and left with a cheeky wink.

The return of Eric… briefly

Plus there was two whole weddings, with two very beautiful dresses (and possibly the best headband Blair has worn in the history of the show) and then of course, there was the fact GG was Dan all along. Dan! Oh lonely boy. Though it does make sense. Dan has consistently been the character obsessed with getting in to the Upper East Side. My money had been on Jenny or Eric though, but I suppose I can count half a victory on the fact that Jenny knew all along.

I suppose really, the finale we got was kind of what the show deserved – a big bang. With loads of the cast returning to celebrate – also including Cyrus, my favourite character in the history of ever (mostly because he’s the voice of Rex in Toy Story) – and the majority of the people ending up where we all expected and where they should be. (I always shipped Derena and Chair okay?! I’m happy.)

So we ended where we begun, Serena walking down some stairs to an onlooking adoring Dan. While it wasn’t a normal gossip girl episode, I suppose it didn’t need to be. Because this was the final xoxo. The last episode ever and man, I’ll bloody miss this show. I’m teary again just thinking about it.
