Men’s Campus Football: The Leagues So Far

Brace yourselves, the winter break is coming.

| UPDATED

As we rapidly approach December and the end of the first semester, it means that we’re almost at the half-way stage in the Men’s Campus Football leagues. This is The Tab Liverpool’s  roundup of the Campus Football so far:

* Notes for reading league tables:
First column of the table denotes games played.

Second column denotes games won.
Third column denotes games drawn.
Fourth column denotes games lost.
Fifth column denotes goal difference.
Sixth column denotes points accumulated.

Men’s Wednesday First Division

1 FTSE XI 4 4 0 0 13 12
2 Mathletico Madrid 3 3 0 0 25 9
3 Law 4 3 0 1 3 9
4 Football Club (C.U.F.C) 3 2 0 1 8 6
5 Engineering Wed 3 2 0 1 5 6
6 Biomed FC 4 1 0 3 -9 3
7 McNair Old Boys 3 0 1 2 -6 1
8 Politics 4 0 1 3 -15 1
9 The History Boys 4 0 0 4 -24 0

No real surprises to be had in the Wednesday First Division. Champions Mathletico are knocking at the league leaders FTSE XI‘s door, with CUFC proving to be a surprise package in the league so far. The History Boys look certain for relegation with a staggering -24 goal difference and 4 games out of 4 lost.

Men’s Wednesday Second Division

1 E=Emile Heskey Squared 4 4 0 0 9 12
2 FTSC FC 3 3 0 0 14 9
3 Frumba FC 4 3 0 1 1 9
4 SOCLAS Wed 4 2 0 2 3 6
5 Mighty Morton Ducks 3 2 0 1 2 6
6 AEK Mathens 3 1 0 2 1 3
7 R&G FC 3 1 0 2 -1 3
8 History FC 3 1 0 2 -2 3
9 Computer Science 3 0 0 3 -6 0
10 Rankin 2nd years 4 0 0 4 -21 0

Wednesday Second Division looks to be a tighter affair than its top tier counterpart.

The top 5 all look like they could challenge for the title and the league’s one promotion place. However, unless E=Emile Heskey Squared’s form goes into entropy,  you would wager them to be Second Division Champions, especially after last week’s dramatic last-gasp victory over SOCLAS.

Computer Science and Rankin 2nd Years are the league’s main struggles having lost all of their games so far this season. AEK Mathens, the second string Mathletico Madrid side, are failing to live up to their senior side’s mantle, having only won once this season.

Men’s Sunday First Division

1 Dentistry 3 3 0 0 15 9
2 Medics A 3 2 0 1 10 6
3 Borussia Munchenglad-to-do-maths 2 2 0 0 6 6
4 Earth Science 3 2 0 1 2 6
5 Engineering Sun 3 2 0 1 2 6
6 Physiotherapy 3 1 1 1 -2 4
7 FC SOCLAS 3 1 1 1 -8 4
8 Salisbury 3rd Year 4 1 0 3 -5 3
9 Architecture 3 0 0 3 -10 0
10 Politics Sun 3 0 0 3 -10 0

Sunday Division One looks to be a tightly contested league with the top  7 all with valid reason to be confident of chances of success.  Dentistry sit first after having gnawed their way through their opposition and have a +15 goal difference to brag about. Sunday’s Maths side, Borrusia Munchenglad-to-do-maths, can be confident of success in this league after two solid victories in their opening matches.

The biggest shock in the league is the performances of Architecture , who were Sunday Second Division Champions last season. Architecture’s chances were boosted with the contentious transfer of former Dynamo Roscoe Centre Back, Callum Bebb, who has been the subject of vociferous criticism from his former teammates.

Men’s Sunday Second Division

1 The Medics FC 3 2 1 0 14 7
2 Mersey Shore 3 2 0 1 8 6
3 Red Star Rathbone 2 2 0 0 8 6
4 Dale Madrid 3 2 0 1 4 6
5 Villa Dale 3 2 0 1 -4 6
6 Law Sun 3 1 1 1 -4 4
7 Environmental Sciencies 3 1 0 2 -2 3
8 Dynamo Roscoe 3 1 0 2 -8 3
9 Medics B 2 0 0 2 -3 0
10 Biomed FC Sun 3 0 0 3 -13 0

Sunday Second Division looks like it will be extremely close this year. Due to rearranged matches and altered fixtures, there have been less games played, so we only have a vague impression of how teams are faring, but one side of note is FC Medics who have had a blistering start to the season with a number of strong results against opposition.

Of the two promoted teams, Third Division Champions, Dinamo Roscoe, and Runners-Up, Red Star Rathbone, it is Red Star who are faring better in the Second Division. Dinamo have failed to live up to expectations with two defeats and a victory from their opening three games. Although, a clearer understanding will be had after a few more games in this league.

Men’s Sunday Third Division

1 Vets Football 2 2 0 0 14 6
2 Marozzi 11 3 2 0 1 -1 6
3 Accrington Manly 2 1 0 1 -1 3
4 Carnatic XI 3 1 0 2 -2 3
5 Vine Grove FC 2 1 0 1 -2 3
6 Mulberry Court 2 1 0 1 -3 3
7 Athletico Vine Court 3 1 0 2 -3 3
Team Withdrawals*
10 R&G FC Sun 1 0 0 1 -2 0

Sunday Division Three is extremely hard to predict at this early stage. Every team bar bottom placed R&G FC Sun have points registered on the board, meaning that at this stage the league is very much still open. However, one glaring fact is Vets Football’s goal scoring record – a goal difference of +14 after only two games.

*Two teams withdrew from Sunday Division 3; however, before their withdrawal, they had accumulated more points than R&G Sunday. When R&G Sunday amass their first points, the table will accurately reflect the 8 teams.
