University of Lincoln’s sports societies tour to Croatia cancelled due to Coronavirus

Students have been promised a full refund

This morning, the company ILOVETOUR have announced in an email that they have been forced to cancel this year’s sports tour to Croatia.

The company organises sports tours for universities up and down the country, but with Croatian authorities advising against large gatherings, ILOVETOUR have said they have been left with no choice but to cancel.

The email read “It is with deep sadness to announce that ILOVETOUR have made the decision to cancel all tours to Croatia 2020”

“We want to apologise for any inconvenience this may cause you, but we must put your welfare and safety at the forefront of our decision making. With the current state of the COVID-19 Coronavirus outbreak, we believe that it is the most responsible action to take at this time.

“The Croatian authorities have advised against gatherings of over 1000 people; this is coupled with the news that Croatian authorities have introduced a compulsory 14 day period of self-isolation for all foreign nationals arriving from the UK.

“ILOVETOUR believe there is no other choice but to cancel the 2020 offerings.”

Chloe Groom, a member of Lincoln’s athletics society, spoke to The Tab Lincoln, saying: “Obviously it’s hugely disappointing, the whole society is gutted especially as it was getting closer so we’d started to change money, buy outfits and organise activities.

“But we also understand that safety is the most important thing and if Tour had the potential to make people ill and even put some lives at risk then cancelling it was the right decision.

Sports societies are seemingly positive despite this set back, with Chloe adding: “we’ve been told we’ll get a full refund so we can’t be too upset, there will be events on during that week in Lincoln which means those that couldn’t afford tour get to join in too.”
