An investigation is underway after a fresher died in Danesgate House.

The 18-year-old from Manchester had fallen ill before coming back to his halls in Danesgate House, where an ambulance was called around 3:30am this morning.

He was taken to Lincoln County Hospital and declared dead.

Lincolnshire Police are appealing for any information which may help to identify the cause of his death.

Detective Inspector Suzanne Davies said: “This tragic event is presently unexplained and we need to find out exactly what happened to his young man.

“His family are looking for and deserve answers to their questions.”

A University of Lincoln spokesperson said: “The University of Lincoln is extremely saddened to hear of the sudden death of one of our students last night.

“The University’s Student Support Service is on hand to provide support, including a confidential counselling service, to any students affected by this tragic loss.

“Our thoughts are with the student’s family and friends at this very sad time.”

Correction: previously this article said the fresher had been out at a nightclub in the city, which has now been removed. Police have now ruled it out of their enquiries.
