Lovestruck Boyfriend Uses Brayford Flash Mob to Pop the Question

Local man proposes to his girlfriend with the help of Bishop Grosseteste’s Dance Society.

A Bishop Grosseteste alumna got an unexpected surprise strolling down the Brayford earlier this week when her boyfriend proposed to her with a dance flashmob.

Ian Burton surprised his girlfriend Katrina Coupland by arranging an elaborate performance from the Bishop Grosseteste dance society, which Katrina used to belong to.

The enthusiastic students danced outside Chimiganga to the ‘Wild Ones’ and eventually ‘Marry You’ by Bruno Mars. Towards the end of the display, Ian Burton emerged with his little helpers holding placards asking Katrina Coupland to marry him.

Emily Marrows, one of the first dancers on scene, said: “The whole way through rehearsals I was less worried about messing the dance up and more worried about whether she would say yes or no.”

Fortunately for them, their efforts weren’t wasted and the young woman accepted the proposal, receiving loud cheers all round  from students and onlookers, excluding the man trapped behind them in his car.
