Lincoln Students presented with Royal Television Society Award

Lincoln undergraduates accept entertainment category award for their comedy film, Dead Swan.

A talented group of 2nd year film-makers were recently awarded a top regional prize for their group comedy project, Dead Swan.

Aiden Barker-Dean, Bethany Hoggarth-Hill, Thomas Mckie, Marc Piper and Alexander Whitcombe received their award at the ceremony in Birmingham from actor Mark Williams, famously known for his role of Arthur Weasley in the Harry Potter film series.

Prestigious award

The Director Thomas Mckie said “The whole thing was very surprising, after watching the other nominees all of us agreed we had no chance at winning so when they read out our name it was pretty shocking”.

It is not uncommon for students at Lincoln University to be nominated for  RTS Midlands Student Awards, this year a third of the students were from The University of Lincoln. Last year, Besma Ayari won a national award from the RTS for her film, The End of Silence. As winners, the students will now go on to compete in the National Royal Television Society Awards, hopefully following in Besma Ayari’s footsteps.

Award ceremony in Birmingham

Head of the School of Media at the University of Lincoln, Dr Sarah Barrow, said “It is extremely rare for a second-year project to win a category, and Royal Television Society accolades are among the most prestigious in the media industry, so this really is a fantastic achievement.”
