Gilbert Murray and Stamford is officially the best halls in Leicester

‘We found out you could climb on to the Lasdun roof, so people used to pee off it’

Earlier this week we asked you to vote on which are the best halls at Leicester University.

Never mind the X Factor results, who cares who wins I’m a celeb, the votes have been tallied, and we have a winner. With 27 per cent of you voting for its victory in our poll, shining through as Leicester’s best, the diamond in the rough has prevailed- and it is Gilbert Murray and Stamford.

Beaumont Hall came a close second with nearly 24 per cent of the votes, and Opal Court received a shocking 3 per cent.

So, what is it about GMS that makes it so legendary?

The heartbreak of leaving halls forever

Sitting snuggly in the heart of OSV, GMS residents have proven their allegiance to their prison, narrowly escaping its high walls and embracing the pride that comes with being a GMS veteran.

Amy,  Biological Sciences second year who endured Lasdun, let us in on a little known secret of Oadby’s greatest. She said: “In the third term we found out you could climb on to the Lasdun roof, so people used to pee of it and stuff.”

Yes, someone threw a TV off it too.

She added: “After a night out, a random guy got in our cab and came back to our block with us and just fell asleep in my bed! I had to sleep in my friends room because we couldn’t get rid of him!”.

Apparently even local Leicesterians know of GMS’s greatness and want to stay here.

Liv, a second year History student, said: “Lasdun carpets soak up literally anything, you vomit on it when you get home after a particularly heavy night, wake up in the morning and it’s gone, it was brilliant! Gross, but brilliant.”

But for all its flaws, GMS fits the bill as being the perfect student halls in Leicester. Cheap, sociable and seriously underrated. GMS-ites have put you all to shame, voting their little heads off to hit the top of the polls.

Unless you lived in Bowder, then you were probably too busy trouser-pressing your Chinos to vote.

And to top it all off, they even had a slip and slide. If that’s not enough to make you want to live here then go home, or to DMU!

Anyone fancy a Slip ‘n’ Slide?
