We’ve ranked ourselves the 47th best uni in the UK
Why can’t we just love ourselves
Leicester ranks a paltry 47th place in WhatUni’s list of the best universities in the UK.
We’ve dropped from the dizzy heights of 20th from last year and we only have ourselves to blame.
Results have been based entirely on the opinions of students – if a university racked up over 100 reviews on Whatuni’s site they were automatically entered into the rankings. 20,000 overall reviews contributed to the findings.
Our close neighbours Loughborough were the overall winners of the 113 unis included and also won the award for best student union.
Hardly surprising when Leicester students invade Loughborough’s SU event DBE on a monthly basis.
The categories up for review featured accommodation, facilities, city life, clubs and societies, courses and lectures, and job prospects.
In the battle of the East Midlands Leicester fared awfully, being beaten by Loughborough (1st), Nottingham Trent (13th), Nottingham (16th), DMU (43rd) and Derby (45th).
The DMU victory hurts.
A small consolation is the lack of correlation between these rankings and those of the league tables composed by Times Higher or The Guardian. Even the likes of Oxford, Cambridge, and UCL didn’t make the top 25.
One of the 335 reviews which made up Leicester’s overall score was from an anonymous source back in June 2007 who said:
“I really enjoy leicester uni….its exciting liverly” and summarised “leicester’s wkd” before going on to give Leicester 1 star overall.
Let’s not take this ranking too seriously.
