Lavish brochures cost the uni nearly £4,000 to commemorate the retiring Vice Chancellor.

Just shy of 1,000 copies of a 32 page publication entitled ‘The Burgess Years’ were produced in tribute to Sir Bob’s services to education as Vice Chancellor.

He retired at the end of September this year.

The university previously neglected to divulge any information regarding the cost of the commemorative document, however Freedom of Information requests disclosed that the uni coughed up £3,947.35 to pay for the brochures.

A university spokesman has defended spunking this whopping amount by saying: “Last year, the university had a turnover of £281 million.”

Putting things in perspective, second year student and employee at the SU shop Nourish, Cassie Blagden said: “Four grand, that’s half a year’s tuition fees.”
