VIDEO: ULSU President candidates release campaign films

…but who will you back?

Candidates for the position of ULSU President have launched their campaign videos on Youtube for all to see.

Election fever has consumed campus. Banners, flyers and t-shirt wearing campaign monkeys are swinging around campus to tell you who to vote for, but it’s your democratic right to vote for who you want and when you want.

You also don’t have to vote to keep a building open. Scandalous we know.

But who exactly do you want to run your SU? Maybe these fact files will help you decide.

Vote below in our poll…

Peter Clarke

Slogan: Peter Clarke for Union President.

Pros:

• Peter wants to bring back the safety bus, an important part of ensuring the safety of students when they return home from Red Leicester and Shabang.

• He’s also interested in bringing a bar back to campus following the closure of the Scholar at the start of the last academic year.

• Junior Common Room societies are also on Peter’s agenda.

• His video has explosions.

• Vibrancy.

Cons:

• He promises cake but we couldn’t see any.

Slogan: A better University. A better Union.

Chris is currently the President of The Ripple and has previously sat on the committees of LUUNS, Amnesty International and The Ripple. He also sat on Union Parliament in 2010.

Pros:

• He’ll prosecute all the dodgy landlords

• He’s committed to finding a new sponsor for Team Leicester, giving sports clubs the opportunity to include a sponsorship sec on their committees.

• He’s also looking to create a Students’ Union in Oadby, start Taxi Tokens and keep Wednesday afternoons free.

Cons:

• He confused the Library with a student residential area. Awks (although we understand it can get a bit confusing).

• Sports clubs can add roles to their committee when they want. They don’t need someone to tell them they can do it or do it for them.

Michael Rubin

Slogan: Vote Rubin #1 President

Michael Rubin is currently Education Officer at the Students’ Union. He’s helped to push through the exam feedback scheme that has seen students receive detailed feedback on their exam performance.

Pros:

• Rubin’s got experience of the SU and student politics.

• He wants to create an SU approved estate agent scheme to put an end to dodgy landlords.

• Rubin wants to free up mini-buses to ensure sports teams don’t have to turn up in taxis to their matches.

Cons:

• He has so many policies. Mini-buses, SU approved estate agents, and SU loyalty card, a £2 meal deal etc. etc.

• His 5 point plan is a bit commie.

• Nobody looks good in orange.

RON (re-open nominations)

Slogan: “Bloody Hell”.

RON graduated with honours from Hogwarts State University, successfully defeating death eaters and the Dark Lord in a narrow and tight fought battle. He also contributing towards the reforms at the Ministry of Magic.

Pros:

• He won’t try and close the SU until a certain number of people have voted.

• He’s got a 12 inch wand.

• He loves knitted jumpers.

Cons:

• He’s scared of spiders.
