University sees minimal strike action

Leicester avoided significant action yesterday as lecturers were on strike over pay.

| UPDATED

Just as the storms avoided Leicester, so did yesterday’s strike action.

Only a few students were affected by the strike at the university, with one student saying: “I woke up at 8am for a lecture and found out just as I left the door that it was cancelled. I could have had an extra hour in bed.”

Only a few departments opted to back their staff members, with the one pictured below being displayed on the side of the Students’ Union.

In addition to the banner displayed on the side of the Fielding Johnson Building, those in the picket line were distributing flyers outlining their points.

It is not clear how many people were actually affected by the strike, or indeed how many university staff took part in it.

The protests in Leicester are in stark contrast to those seen elsewhere in Britain.
