Red Leicester struck by mysterious power cut which plunges 65,000 homes into darkness

Last night’s Red Leicester shenanigans were put on hold following a power cut that left students stranded outside.

Police confirmed a large part of East Leicester was plunged into darkness, leaving 65,000 homes without power.

Red Leicester’s tweets indicate that the power cut occurred somewhere between 2 and 3am in the run up to late lounge.

Leicestershire Police have posted on the news and appeals section of their website asking people to only contact them if they are in a genuine emergency, rather than reporting the blackout. The post is timed at 2.43am.
