The University of Leicester has achieved it’s highest ever World University ranking, coming 35 places higher than last year.

This news means that the University is now firmly in the top 2% of world universities. The university has also emerged as the highest rising UK institution in the world top 200.

Leicester has risen to 161st place, up from 196 last year. The rise means that Leicester is performing better than the University of Liverpool and the UEA.

This success comes off the back of being voted Times/Sunday Times University of the Year 2014 runner-up, in the first ever joint Times/Sunday Times University guide, as well as ranking 14th out of more than 120 universities in their league table. The University has also been ranked 13th out of 119 higher education institutions by The Guardian.

Vice-Chancellor Professor Sir Robert Burgess said: “This is a terrific result achieved in a highly competitive global higher education environment.  It is a testament to the dedication and ambition of colleagues across the University that we continue to go from strength to strength. Leicester’s rise within the top two per cent in the world is an achievement of which we are proud.”

There are a total of 26 countries in the world top 200 with the US and UK constituting the majority.

The Times World University Rankings is the world’s most comprehensive global rankings, using 13 separate performance indicators to examine a university’s strengths against all of its core missions – teaching, research, knowledge transfer and international outlook.
