A huge new nightclub in Leeds has its opening delayed

Cargo hopes to open this Friday instead

| UPDATED

Cargo, a huge new nightclub, will no longer open in Leeds this week in the former Tiger Tiger venue on Albion Street, which has remained vacant for four years after it shut down, due to a delay.

A spokesperson for LOOSEDAYS posted: “We received a phone call this morning explaining that the club wasn’t going to be ready for the opening of our freshers welcome party tonight.”

The new nightclub will have a capacity of 2,500 people with four rooms, LED lighting, and a state of the art sound system.

The club was meant to be opening exclusively for freshers in Freshers’ Week from Monday, with a full opening to the public the week after. It now hopes to open on Friday.

Utopiar, one of Newcastle-based LOOSEDAYS’ event nights, will be hosting club nights every Friday from October 1st.

The house and techno club night is well renowned in Newcastle, so we can’t wait to have it in Leeds!

To make up for the delay in club opening LOOSEDAYS said: “Everyone that has purchased a Fresher Band will now receive 28 FREE EVENTS over the next four weeks.”

The Utopiar team told the Yorkshire Evening Post: “It’s been four years since one of Leeds’ biggest venues closed it’s doors, the infamous Tiger Tiger ran some of the best events the cities’ seen over the last decade.

“Next week, we bring back the glory days of this incredible site with a brand new transformed club layout with a 2,500 capacity, four rooms including an underground house and techno room, state of the art sound system and a full LED installation making this club the best superclub in Leeds!

“This will be our new home every Friday from October 1 and we’re bringing you our number one event all the way from Newcastle.”
