Leeds Uni extends halls rent rebate for the third time

The third rent rebate will apply from March 8th – March 26th

The University of Leeds has announced this afternoon that the rent rebate for students living in University owned or managed accommodation can apply for a third rent rebate early next week. Now some students living in university managed halls can claim rebates for up to the 26th March. This is a development form their January and February announcements.

The email students received this afternoon, confirming the extension

The email sent to students from the Student Communications Team this afternoon states: “We are now extending this [the rent rebate] to cover rent payments until the end of this term (26 March 2021), if you’re eligible.”

This means for students who normally live in University-allocated accommodation, are not required to be on campus for face-to-face teaching and have not been living in your University allocated-accommodation since the 11 January 2021 can apply for this extension.

If students have lived in their accommodation at any point between 11 January 2021 and 8 March 2021, they will not be eligible to apply for the third rebate.

Students who wish to apply will be able to from early next week, with Residential Services sending out an email.

They finish the email off with the team stating it is “important that you do not cancel your payment plan or direct debit”, linked to the Cut The Rent Leeds Rent Strike, backed by many LUU Representatives.

The whole rent rebate period currently covers term 2 (11 January – 26 March), meaning some students could be getting up to £2,332* in rent credits or refunded if they have paid their accommodation contract upfront.
