Man stabbed near Hyde Park Sainsbury’s

Rumours of a shooting have been discredited

A man has been stabbed near Hyde Park Sainsbury's at 2pm today, police have confirmed.

A 32-year-old man has been airlifted to hospital with knife injuries and is in a "serious condition", according to police.

Police vans and fire engines are present outside Sainsbury's. A section of nearby Brudenell Road has also been cordoned off near the bus stop opposite Sainsbury's.

The Leeds Tab have spoken to over 20 people on the scene, with many saying it's a "gang-related stabbing". It is currently unconfirmed that four people were involved.

The Leeds Tab understands students have been told to remain in their houses for safety reasons.

An air ambulance was seen taking off in the park opposite Royal Park pub.

Rumours of gunshots originally circulated in student group chats but multiple eyewitnesses have said they did not hear gunshots. Police have confirmed that no firearms were discharged.

West Yorkshire Police have released a statement, which says: "At 2pm today (November 2nd) police were contacted by the ambulance service who had received a report of a man with serious knife injuries in Kings Road, Hyde Park.

"Police and ambulance attended and the 32-year-old victim was taken to hospital in a serious condition.

"A scene is currently in place in the vicinity of Kings Road and Royal Park Road and enquiries are ongoing.

"Anyone who witnessed the incident or who has any information is asked contact Leeds District CID via 101 quoting crime reference 13180550009 or call the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111."

First West Yorks have said the 56 bus will be diverting the area. In a tweet they said: "Due to a major incident these services are diverting via Hyde Park Road, Headingley Lane and Victoria Road in both directions."
