Victim of Manchester attack remembered at Leeds Beckett graduation

Criminology first year Courtney Boyle died during the Manchester Arena attack in May

A victim of the Manchester Arena attack was remembered at the Leeds Beckett graduation ceremony. Courtney Boyle had just completed the first year of her Criminology degree at Leeds Beckett, when she tragically lost her life, along with her stepfather in the attack during an Ariana Grande concert at the Manchester arena in May.

Her memory lived on at Leeds Beckett yesterday however, as her mother and sister were present at the graduation ceremony, where they received an award in her honour.

In a speech at the ceremony, Courtney was described as “bright, hardworking and gifted” and “warm, friendly and loved by a large circle of friends and the staff of the school of social sciences”. The Deputy Vice Chancellor also went on to say that “she was taken from her family who have joined us today and from our university community in a single heart breaking moment”.

Her achievements and contribution to Leeds Beckett were then rewarded with a posthumous award which was given to Courtney’s family, surrounded by a standing ovation from those present at the ceremony.
