Officers were called to the airport around 8:10 pm last night (Saturday) after reports of a ‘suspicious package’. The airport originally had a cordon around the site, but has since reopened.

West Yorkshire Police said that all passengers were safely evacuated and the package examined. According to the airport website, a number of flights were unable to land and there are also unconfirmed reports that the control tower was also evacuated.

A spokesperson said: “At 8.09pm today police were called to a report of a suspicious package at Leeds Bradford Airport. A cordon has been put in place and the airport closed whilst the package is examined. Further information will be issued in due course.”
