Kit Harington has been spotted filming in Leeds, swapping Winterfell for Kirkstall Abbey on Monday evening in order to film a new period drama.

The drama is set to be based on the 17th century thriller “Gunpowder” which is the well known story of the “persecuted Catholics” which led to the Gunpowder plot. The drama is reportedly focussing on the driving force behind the scheme, through the character of Robert Catesby (played by Harington) rather than the legendary figure of Guy Fawkes.

Kit Harington,  Liv Tyler and Sherlock’s Mark Gatiss were amongst the cast who were filming on site at the abbey between 5pm and 4am, when the abbey was not open to visitors. The cast are no strangers to Leeds, as they were also spotted filming scenes at Oakwell Hall, a stately home near Birstall in February.
