Meet Reece Parker, your new Gryphon editor

He celebrated with a curry

Unless you’re living under a rock, you’ll know that the new LUU exec were elected yesterday. For them, it means they’ve sorted a grad job. And for the rest of us? Well, we can stop being accosted with flyers and terrible slogans every time we head onto campus.

We chatted to Reece Parker, newly elected editor-in-chief of Leeds’ second best student publication, The Gryphon, about hangovers, salt bae, and mic drops.

How are you feeling? Did you celebrate hard?

In a word, hungover. It was actually my girlfriend’s 21st yesterday, so we went for a curry with all our mates then headed to Mint and got horrendously pissed.

Tell us a bit about plans for next year. You said you’re going to personally deliver The Gryphon to all the halls – but surely that’ll take forever?

I’m not too worried about it. Once the right number of papers are at each hall, I want the head of site/chief warden to stick one in each flat’s letterbox.

Did you feel like a minor celeb impersonating salt bae for your campaign video?

Not really, felt like a major mug to be honest.

Do you have a message for your fellow competitors? It was a pretty close category.

I’ve spoken to James in person and Mark over Facebook already. They’re both really great guys and I’ve enjoyed working with them this year, they’ve got great ideas for the paper that I’ll incorporate next year, and have said if either of them decide to work in Leeds I’d be honoured to have them on board. Us three have had a group chat throughout the election, and have kept it very civil throughout – it’s been nice to be honest.

And finally… Do you regret that mic drop?

That’s the first time in my life I’ve done something cool and you’re trying to guilt trip me into regretting it? Come on Tab, play nice x
