What your New Year’s Eve plan says about your future career

It’s really all about your social media post the morning after!

Soon we’ll be ticking over to the new year, one filled with hope, new prospects and brighter days than 2016 offered. While you might have some New Year’s resolutions, believe it or not, how you choose to ring out 2016 and ring in 2017 offers a few clues to your career.

You go to a fireworks display

If you’re planning on venturing out to a fireworks display, you’re likely to be one of those people who doesn’t mind if their gain is accompanied by a little pain. You’re okay with standing for hours and being engulfed in a crowd. You like being in the middle of the action and don’t mind stiff competition and big investments of time and energy if it means bragging rights that you were there in the flesh, while others were only watching from the comfort of the sofa. You’re likely to be interested in professions such as Law, Law enforcement, Government, Politics or the Military.

You go out with friends

If you wouldn’t dream of spending NYE without your best pals, you probably already understand the career benefit of being well-connected. You know that networking is the most powerful tool in your job search, which means the people you choose to party with tonight (and the people they know) are best-positioned to help you make your next career move. You will work best in professions such as Business, Consulting and Communications. That being said, you might want to buy them a round!

You’re at home

Home is where you’ll be found when the clock strikes midnight. Your love for the quiet and for spending time in an atmosphere that you have control over, as you’ve been disappointed in the past. And you’ll probably be applying that same scepticism to the next too-good-to-be-true career opportunity that arises. Your qualities and characteristics make you best suited to careers such as Teaching, Counselling or School Social Work.

You do whatever will look good on social media

Whatever you end up doing on New Year’s Eve, it will be documented! You believe perception is reality and being able to refine and play with how the world sees you comes naturally. You instinctively know which type of shareable content will generate what response. That’s why you will be interested in Advertising, Journalism, Publishing or Marketing. Let’s hope no one holds a candle to you when it comes to tweaking a CV to the limits of truthfulness and you’re not punching above your weight in your chosen job applications!
