Police are investigating gunshots heard in Leeds city centre

One car fired at another on Saturday night

Detectives are appealing for information after gun shots were fired in Leeds City Centre on Saturday.

It is believed that shots were fired at an Audi on Burmantofts Street from a Ford Mondeo at around 6pm.

The same car was later recorded firing more shots on North Street soon after. The 28 year old driver was not injured.

North Street was closed yesterday from New York Road Junction to Byron road whilst investigations took place, but has now reopened.

Detective Chief Inspector Nicola Bryar of the Homicide and Major Enquiry Team said: “This is clearly a very serious incident where shots have been discharged in busy streets on a Saturday evening when a number of members of the public were in the area.”

This outbreak has caused great concern within the community and local officers are to conduct more frequent patrols to reassure the community of their safety.
