Suspected meningitis case at Leeds uni

A student has been hospitalised

A student at Leeds university has been admitted into hospital with suspected meningitis.

It’s believed it may be as a result of the rare meningococcal infection.

The university are now asking for students not to worry but to look out for any symptoms linked to the meningococcal infection which include fever, headache, stiff neck, a dislike of noise, a dislike of bright light and possibly a rash.

Although the Public Health doctor has said that even when the diagnosis is confirmed, it’s unusual to see a second case.

All of the students housemates have been treated with antibiotics to help prevent and further spread of the infection.

The university have said there is no need for any further students to have antibiotics at this time.
