Two arrested after murder on Hyde Park Terrace

‘It makes Leeds feel very unsafe’

Two men have been arrested on suspicion of murder after an incident on Hyde Park Terrace last night.

West Yorkshire Police have just released a statement confirming rumours that a body was found close to the One Stop at the corner of Hyde Park and they have launched an investigation.

The police have not confirmed the gender or age of the victim, but said that fire services were called to the scene due to a report of a bin fire at 7pm last night.

Officers at the scene confirmed the person was deceased, and two men aged 37 and 50 have been arrested on suspicion of murder and remain in custody.

Fourth year Hyde Park Terrace resident James Ali said “There was a fire engine randomly parked by One Stop when I went out around 7pm.

“I got a message on the house chat on the way back saying something had kicked off and when I came back there were police, dogs, vans everywhere – the lot.

“Scary stuff – never nice to hear of someone being killed on your doorstep.”

Childhood studies student Kelly Faherty added: “I think it’s very sad and shocking to hear about it, it makes Leeds feel very unsafe.”

Detective Superintendent Simon Atkinson said: “Enquiries are obviously at an early stage and we are yet to confirm the circumstances of this persons death.

“I would like anyone who was in the area this evening who may have seen any suspicious activity to contact police on 101, or to report it anonymously to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.”
