A fourth year Medic is carving out a unique alternative to being a doctor – by starring in several Bollywood blockbusters.

Hishaam Sheikh has starred in two Bollywood films, including the huge hit “Shaandaar” with Shahid Kapoor.

Hishaam was part of several uni dance societies including Vibes Leeds, LSA and Leeds Bhangra Society before being asked to dance in his first Bollywood production.

Hishaam told the Tab: “I love music and I think you can’t enjoy a good upbeat song properly without dancing to it.

“I never had the confidence to perform in front of audiences until I got involved with dance groups at Leeds Uni.

“After dancing in ‘Shaandaar’ starring Shahid Kapoor and Alia Bhatt with some other students from the Leeds Bhangra Society, I worked as a background dancer in another Bollywood film called Housefull 3.

Hishaam continued: “The experience of being a dancer in Bollywood films is amazing.

“Working with some of the biggest names in Bollywood who I have grown up watching is surreal to say the least.

“My mum is still getting used to the idea of me pursuing this seriously alongside Medicine, but she is happy for me.

“I love the lifestyle of a dancer but I don’t think I could dance exclusively as it can be pretty exhausting.

Hishaam isn’t ruling out a future in Bollywood. He said: “I’d be more interested in balancing dance with other performing opportunities such as fashion modeling, presenting and acting.

“In the future, I hope to get involved in many more Bollywood film shoots, both at home and abroad. I’m currently chasing an opportunity to get involved with a Bollywood production in Abu Dhabi.”
