Police have released CCTV footage of a rapist who sexually assaulted a woman in Leeds city centre last month.

The video shows the man walking down Mark Lane shortly before the attack took place on Friday, August 14.

Soon after the footage, he sexually assaulted a 24-year-old woman, who then fled and told the police.

The suspect is described as aged between 30 and 40, black, tall, with a shaved head.

He was wearing a long black overcoat and black trousers, and may have had a shoulder bag.

Detective Inspector John Dexter, of Leeds District CID, said: “We have been carrying out an extensive trawl of CCTV cameras and have identified footage of the suspect walking around the city centre.

“He presents quite a distinctive figure and we hope that someone will recognise him from these images.

“We believe he may have approached other women in the period leading up to this attack and we would like to hear from anyone who has encountered him.

“The victim has been left badly traumatised by this incident and it is imperative that we identify and arrest this man at the earliest opportunity.”

It is believed the man may have approached other women on the same night, so police are urging anyone with information to come forward.

Anyone with any information should contact Detective Constable Rachel Gilsenan at Elland Road police station via 101, quoting log number 223 of August 14. Information can also be passed anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
