Wetherspoons apply to ruin the Otley Run

Middle of the road pub chain want to be in the middle of our road

Dreary pub chain J D Wetherspoon are applying to open a new branch on Otley Road.

They have bought the former site of the Leeds Girls School, which lies between The Original Oak and Hyde Park pubs on the Otley Run. The pub has already begun applying for licences.

Spoons have over 900 identi-pubs in the UK, and they’ve clearly been alerted to the fact Leeds needs another uninspiring public house with a poor range of beers.

Third-year History student Will Bowden said: “In comparison with most of the other pubs on the Otley Run, a Wetherspoons is probably going to be awful.

We’ve got plenty of pubs with character on that road and in Leeds as a whole, so why do we need another corporate chain?”

Could a Wetherspoons be this fun?

Should Wetherspoons get up and running, it will have to impress to get a good position in the Tab’s definitive ranking of Otley Run pubs.
