Leeds student to represent the UK… at Quidditch
A Leeds Uni Philosophy Student will travel to Canada this summer as part of the UK’s International Quidditch Team.
Philosophy MA student Travis Manuel is set to represent his country in an international Quidditch tournament, after starting a society with his friends at university.
Having helped set up the Leeds Griffins Quidditch team, 24-year-old Travis brushed past nearly 100 applicants to earn a place on the UK team at the Global Games, which take place on July 19th in Burnaby, Canada.
He joins a squad of 21 men and women from Quidditch teams around the country.
Quidditch has been a big hit on campuses since the popularity of the Harry Potter franchises, with teams of seven running around with a broomstick between their legs.
Here’s the Leeds Griffins in action last year against Derby:
This summer’s competition sees teams from the UK, USA, Canada, France, Belgium, Italy and Australia hoping to find some magic in order to become world champions.
